Can I change my contract length? What if I want to move away from The Phone Co-op? Can I get broadband from The Phone Co-op?Phone Co-op Broadband is available over a copper (BT) telephone line, and not cable. It cannot be provided over the following BT services:
If you’re not sure whether any of these services are available on your line, use our service checker to find out – you will need the number of the line you want to check, and its postcode. What speeds can I expect?Use our availability checker to get an estimate of the speeds your line can support – you will need the number of the line you want to check, and its postcode. The actual speed you get will depend on the quality of your phone line and distance from the BT exchange. 24Mbps is the highest end of the scale, but maximum speed is determined by factors such as the length and quality of the copper telephone line to the telephone exchange. As it is a 'rate-adaptive' product the speed at which it downloads and uploads will fluctuate. These fluctuations may also change over time in response to any change in line or the environmental conditions mentioned above. It is likely that speeds no greater than 2Mb will be achieved at peak usage times due to contention in our network and our suppliers' networks. What upload speeds do you offer?A maximum upload speed of 1024Kbps is available for our phone and broadband packages. Standalone residential broadband services have a top upload speed of 448Kbps. Upload speeds of upto 1024Kbps are available on select Business services. How do I move my existing broadband service to The Phone Co-op?First you'll need to check that you are not still under contract with your current ADSL provider. Depending on which of our packages is available in your area, you may need to request a MAC code from your current provider. How long does it take to activate? From the time we receive your application it generally takes 7 to 10 days to have your connection activated. Will my connection go down during the migration period?Any broadband downtime should be limited to less than an hour. If you are transferring to one of our Home Phone and Broadband packages, there will be a small amount of downtime during which you will not be able to make or receive any calls or access the internet. This may last for up to four hours but can on rare occasions be longer due to circumstances beyond our control at the exchange. This is unavoidable and not a fault with the new service. Do I still have to pay line rental to BT?Line rental is not included with the Home ADSL services, but you can save money by moving your line rental to us. Line rental is included in the home phone and broadband and packages. What is the minimum contract period?Standalone services have a minimum contract of 12 months from the date the service commences. Broadband as part of a package is subject to an 18 month contract. Can I change my contract length?Yes you can. If you are signing up for the home and broadband package, you can reduce your contract length to 12 months for a set up fee of £30.00. What happens if I move house?Tell us when you are moving, so we know when to cut off the broadband at your old address. We can provide broadband in your new house once you have a working phone line (which we can install.) A new 12 or 18 month contract term will begin when the new broadband goes live. What if I want to move away from The Phone Co-op?As long as your contract period has expired, simply contact us to request your MAC code, which you will need to give to your new provider. If you are still in contract, there will be a charge of £70, or the total remainder of the contract period – whichever is less – to break away. |
