Line conversions, restarts and installationsContents
ChargesThere are different charges depending on whether you need to install a new telephone line, or restart an inactive line.
Line restartsIf the line is intact then a restart is £5.88. This will usually be the case if the line has not been stopped for long. Unfortunately if the original number of the line has been reallocated, then wiring work may be needed and the new line installation fee may apply. You may be able to check if a line still has a telephone number by dialling 17070 from the line, although sometimes, the number it returns may be a "ghost" from the original owner, and not the number the line will eventually use. Line conversionsIf your line has been converted to another network (usually Talk Talk) then an "LLU conversion" fee of £40 may apply. Customer Services will be able to tell you if this is necessary. Cable line conversionsConverting from a cable line is £78.96, as this requires a new line to be installed. New line installationIf you need a brand new line then that is a standard installation and will cost £78.96. The minimum contract length for new installations is 12 months. New extension on the lineIf you need an extension on an existing line then this work does not have to be carried out by a BT engineer, and to save money we recommend that you contact a local telecoms engineer, for example through Yellow Pages. Lead timesLine restartsRestarting a stopped line can be carried out within 24 hours, however in some cases this can take longer. If extra wiring work is necessary we will let you know by letter, with a date for the work to take place. You then have the option to cancel the order if you do not want to pay the full installation cost. You must inform us at least 2 working days before the installation date. Line transfersTransferring an existing line usually takes 2 weeks. New line installationsInstallation of lines usually takes less than 2 weeks from receipt of your order, although it can take longer if any additional engineering work is required. Until the line is installed and tested by engineers, telephone numbers are provisional and are not considered to be allocated. Any printing, advertising or publication of telephone numbers prior to installation and completion of service is done at your own risk. |
