An estimated 320,000 people are homeless in the UK, according to the latest research by Shelter.
The charity Coffe for Craig was created by Risha Lancaster in 2013. Risha's brother Craig was made homeless after struggling with Paranoid Schizophrenia. They tried for years to help Craig with his mental health and addictions but unfortunately events took a tragic turn. On Tuesday the 3rd of Sept 2013, Craig White died of a heroin overdose on his own in a car park in Cardiff.
As it has been stated on Coffe for Craig website, the volunteers and members see new people who have recently become homeless, sometimes it is their first night on the street and they aim to stop them having to spend that first night outdoors.
Each evening they operate an out of hours drop-in service in the heart of Manchester city centre. They offer support, hot food, food parcels, showers and medical support alongside mental health crisis intervention. Nowadays there are almost thirty charities in Manchester working within the homeless sector.
