Avoid greenwash with Ethical Consumer Best Buy Label

The Ethical Consumer Best Buy Label helps shoppers choose genuinely ethical products and services and it is unique because it looks in detail at the environmental and ethical record of the company behind the product and the product itself.

Launched in 1989, Ethical Consumer Magazine is the UK’s leading ethical and environmental consumer magazine. It is published by an independent and not-for-profit research co-operative.

The Phone Co-op is currently the Best Buy for broadband, email, mobile and line rental. Fairphone is also the Best Buy smartphone.

The main reason behind the creation of this ethical labelling is that the transparent and fully researched approach from Ethical Consumer helps shoppers avoid falling for ethical and environmental claims that turn out to be little more than greenwash.

So how does it work?

Ethical Consumer’s unique scoring system rates the ethical, environmental and social record of the organisations behind the products and services. Their researchers rate both the company and their products and services against more than 20 animal welfare, environmental and human rights criteria.

Each issue of the magazine contains buyer’s guides to everyday products and services from chocolate to building societies.

Based on their findings, Ethical Consumer invites the best ranking organisations to the Best Buy Label scheme.
